• Celebrity Jewelry: Best pieces worn by stars during the 2012 Oscar

  Classic diamonds ruled the awards nights carpet but during the Oscar the spotlight was on the more organic, larger, modern pieces of jewelry. Here are some of the best that needs a second glance:

  Bulgari earrings for Tina Fey

  The chandelier earrings were an excellent choice for stars walking on the red carpet but nothing was more than stunning with how Tina Fey wore hers. The beautiful actress had a pari of Bulgari chandelier earrings fashioned from emerald and sapphire that went well with her dress in navy hue. The colors of the jewelry were very flattering and looked to match the color of the dress from a distance while showing emerald contrasts when seen from up close. Just lovely.

  Irene Neuwith earrings for Busy Philipps

  Busy Philipps had an exceptional pair of earrings from Irene Neuwirth. The unique earrings made use of opal in cerulean and vermillion resulting to an undeniable charm, making it one of the most beautiful piece of jewelry during the Oscar.

  Cuffs by Anna Hu for Gwynneth Paltrow

  Where can the beautiful Gwynneth Paltrow go wrong? Apparently nothing during the Oscar red carpet even as the versatile talent paired her white cape with lovely cuffs from designer Anna Hu that even Wonder Woman will be envious about. The piece was inspired by Snow Queen from The Nut Cracker with 2,368 pieces of icy DVVS diamonds or about 163 carats in all. The actress added a fresh touch with her matching ring.

  Lorraine Schwartz earrings for Viola Davis

  Viola Davis had a pair of emerald earrings from designer Lorrain Scwartz. The earrings stood out from the rest given the great attention to the smallest of details. Davis paired this with her Vera Wang emerald green dress. The mounting of the gem was classic and add to the equation the filigree covering which made the earrings more interesting.

  In this blog, we have gone over a bunch of different jewelry pieces and we have gone over a bunch of different trends in jewelry but have we touched on 2010 trends?  Not yet!  That is what we are going to do in the next couple blogs, so that way you can make sure that you are aware of all of the trends in jewelry coming down the pipeline.

  This year is going to be the biggest year for colored diamonds.  In the past, diamonds were things that were colorless, but now – colored diamonds are making a huge statement and I can tell you for sure that I love this particular trend!  Not only are they beautiful but they can truly go with any outfit.

  However – one thing to be aware of whenever you are looking to purchase some colored diamonds is the fact that these diamonds are extremely expensive – so make sure you are ready to flip the bill!

  Now that we have talked a little bit about why this type of jewelry is so bad – let’s dive on into another piece of Christmas jewelry that does not look the best but really is not all that bad … sort of.  This is actually a pair of earrings and while I am all for cute pieces of jewelry, this looks a little too cute.

  Also – what would you wear these earrings with?  A hideous sweater at a hideous sweater party?  That is probably what I am guessing but why waste your money?  Christmas-themed jewelry and clothing is something that I have never been a fan of.  There are better ways to spread your Christmas cheer than fashioning yourself down.

  So remember – cutesy things like this are not fashionable and I can tell you that they do not look good … on anyone!

  Jewelry is something that is not only fashionable most of the time but also something that is personal.  I have to say however that right around Christmas time, some of the most hideous pieces of jewelry is brought out – and that is what we are going to cover in the next couple blogs. 

  There is a standard in which most people follow when they are picking out jewelry and around Christmas time that standard seems to go down.  Christmas jewelry is terrible most of the time – like these pins for example.  These pins are the perfect example of jewelry that you should not be wearing.

  First off – these pins do not go with anything at all and second, they are only good for one time of year and nothing else.  That does not make sense to spend your money on them!  More Christmas jewelry in the next blog.

• Am Byth Eternity Ring From Clogau: Beautiful!

  This little collection actually came from one of my readers comments – I logged onto the webpage and I have to say that Clogau has some beautiful – beautiful pieces on there!  This is just one of the many pieces on there and in the next blog, we will dip into some of the necklaces but for now, let’s concentrate on the AM Byth eternity ring.  This is a ring that actually depicts the ever-evolving nature of life.

  It is encrusted with 18ct rose hold berries and the vines actually represent all sorts of new life forms that intertwine from old to new … and they create some beautiful lines.  The pattern goes throughout the ring and can be seen from all angles and inside the yellow gold are thirty-three brilliantly cut diamonds.

  Jewelry is something that should be special and that is how I view the brand new collection from Susan Wong — Castaway Jewelry.  Her vision is something that I absolutely agree with and she is basing this particular collection around treasures lost at sea … and that is exactly the inspiration behind this particular necklace!  The pyrite and sand dollar necklace are two things that are definitely sea-worthy and look amazing on.

  Susan Wong, just a little background on her is actually a self-taught jeweler, which is something that I respect very much as I am a self-taught … a lot of things actually.  She started making jewelry early on and has just released Castaway Jewelry which is a collection that she is very, very proud of.

  With good reason too! This chick is on the high-rise and she will definitely be gaining a lot of business from me … you can bet on that!

• Tori Spelling’s Take on Jewelry

  If you are any kind of reality TV junkie, then you are probably well aware that Tori Spelling has gone from 90210’s favorite virgin to the queen of TV movies to, finally, mother, wife, reality star, and … jewelry designer?  As it so happens, yes, she is designing jewelry these days, along with Mehran, one of her very closest friends (or so I gathered from her first book, thank you very much).

  The question is, is her jewelry any good?  Would you want to wear it?  Well, it has to be said that Ms. Spelling’s (also known as Mrs. McDermott’s) jewelry line, available primarily through the Home Shopping Network, is pretty cool.

  I really like this particular piece, the Simulated Pearl and Black Enamel Necklace. It features dangling accents of branches and petals with a gold toned chain and black satin ribbon.

• A Choker to Die For!

  Chokers are no longer a throwback to the 1990s, and if you need the proof, just check out this Thread Choker from Dana Lorenza’s increasingly popular Fallon line.
